Lunchtime

Rockit Burger

There are some really great perks for those of us working in River North and downtown Chicago.  Lake views, river walks and flagship shopping make it easy to fill lunch hours with pleasure.  One of the best ways to find lunch time happiness is dining at a local restaurant.  Here is a delicious list of Suites Collection favorites for dining near our business centers whether with friends or entertaining for business.

La Madia

La Madia

The swankiest new pizza place in Chicago is La Madia, at 59 W. Grand.  The floor to ceiling windows draw you inside.  In warm weather, the windows are open and it feels like you’re dining al fresco and, in cold weather, a cozy seat by the fire will make you forget your worries.   Another great place to escape from the grind is the high-octane vibe at Rockit Bar & Grill at 22 W. Hubbard.  The wide ranging menu makes it an ideal location for group outings.  We celebrated a team birthday there recently and we highly recommend the sweet potato fries!

Ruth's Chris

Ruth's Chris

If you have someone in from out of town, they are going to want a steak while in Chicago.  Take them to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse at 431 N. Dearborn.   We had our company holiday party there last year and we lingered for hours over the delicious meal.  Their professional staff took special care of us all evening.  On the other hand, if you are looking for a dining experience to make you feel like you are away of Chicago, try Brasserie Jo, an excellent French brasserie at 59 W. Hubbard.

Potbelly's

Potbelly

When in a hurry, don’t settle for a convenience store sandwich at your desk.   Grab a custom made sandwich and chips and slip into a booth at Potbelly Sandwich Works at 508 N. Clark.   During weekday lunch hours, enjoy live music in their dining room.  There is always a stack of free Chicago Readers or The Onion waiting for you.  Corner Bakery is another easy and quick alternative right downstairs from Theatre District Business Center at 60 West Randolph.

Corner Bakery

Corner Bakery

Adjacent to the Corner Bakery on the corner of Randolph & Dearborn is Petterino’s, named for Arturo Petterino, the long-time maitre d’ of the Pump Room during the heyday of stars and socialites.  Petterino’s is a good choice for entertaining clients.  The food is superb and the walls are decorated with caricatures of actors and politicians – a guaranteed conversation starter because there is always a story to go with them!  If you’ve got tickets to a show at The Goodman or The Ford Center, the location is perfect.

Maggiano's Little Italy

Maggiano

Need some comfort food?  Feeding the gang?  Maggiano’s Little Italy will take care of you.  Everything can be served family style, so take some friends or plan to leave with a doggie bag.  Located at the corner of State & Grand downstairs from Court House Executive Offices, the Lettuce Entertain You restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating and seemingly unlimited choices of pastas, meats and seafood.

    Summer Fun

    July 15, 2008

Despite the fact that warm weather feels like it just arrived, we’ve only got 6 weeks left until Labor Day weekend.  Why not take advantage of the remaining season by having some fun after work in Chicago?

The Suites Collection executive offices are located in River North and Downtown.   Both neighborhoods offer plenty of special events to enjoy this summer.

Everywhere you look in the loop on Thursdays, you’ll see someone carrying a bouquet of beautiful fresh flowers.  It’s likely they just visited the Daley Plaza Farmers market across the street from Theater District Business Center.   Local farms set up tents selling fresh produce, jams, breads and other homemade goodies from 7am – 3pm.

After work, grab a picnic supper & meet your friends in Grant Park for a movie. Beginning tonight, movies play Tuesdays at sunset for the next 6 weeks.  Blankets or lawn chairs are recommended! Here’s the schedule:

    July 15: 8:57 p.m. “All About Eve”

    July 22: 8:51 p.m. “The Odd Couple”

    July 29: 8:44 p.m. “The Blues Brothers”

Aug 5: 8:35 p.m. “The Day the Earth Stood Still”

    Aug12: 8:25 p.m. “Touch of Evil”

Aug 19: 8:15 p.m. “An Affair to Remember”

    Aug 26: 8:03 p.m. “Grease”

For a unique sightseeing experience near Court House Executive Offices head down to the River Walk and view “Chicago Looks: Portraits by Chicago Artists”.  These portraits reveal the artists’ personal perspectives on Chicago and their approaches range from literal portraiture to surreal interpretation.  Be sure to check out the portrait between Clark & LaSalle titled “The Pit Broker” by Rebecca Byrne, owner of Studio 12 Fine Art located in Tree Studios.

Speaking of Tree Studios – our historic center for the creative arts at 4 E. Ohio is a great location with shopping, dining and entertainment all in one building.  After work one evening, enjoy the pleasures of al fresco dining accompanied by sparking wine at Pops for Chicago. Afterwards, stroll up State Street from Ohio to Ontario exploring the distinctive stores.  Then head into PIE at 615 N. State St. where you can sip a cappuccino, indulge in a delectable dessert and savor the views of the interior courtyard (pictured above).
    Happy Summer everyone!

    Why We Love Our Buildings

    June 3, 2008

This is the Court House Executive Office building more than 100 years ago.  Constructed just after the Chicago Fire of 1871, it was called “The Grand Palace Hotel”.  Located at the corner of Clark & Grand, 101 W. Grand, Maggiano’s Little Italy now occupies the ground and lower levels and our business center is right above it on the second and third floors.

    Tree Studios Courtyard

Picured above is the interior courtyard at Tree Studios, our center for creative arts at 4 E. Ohio.  Tree Studios was listed on the world monument fund’s 100 most endangered sites around the globe.  Commissioned in 1894 by art enthusiasts Judge Lambert Tree and his wife, Anna, the building was designed to entice the international artists from the World’s Columbian Exposition to remain in Chicago.  Follow the link below to the Chicago Landmark’s page on Tree Studios.

Theater District Business Center is located on the second floor of the Goodman Theater Building at 60 W. Randolph.  It’s right above Petterino’s and the Corner Bakery Cafe.  A great feature of this building is the light show at night.

The spectacular light show, The Goodman Theatre and the North Loop Theatre District and immediate adjacency to the courts at Daley Center, State of Illinois Building and City Hall make it a unique downtown office location.

We love working in these historically significant buildings.  Chicago has such a rich architectural heritage; it’s great to be able to enjoy a piece of it every day.  Visit our Flickr site to see more photos of The Suites Collection offices, buildings and neighborhoods.
